Story of a Musician actually tells three stories: the social aspects
of Indian Music, the musical features of a particular stylistic
school known as the Agra Gharana, and the major representative
of this style, the late master, Ustad Yunus Husain Khan.
The Agra Gharana is one of the oldest vocal styles of Indian classical
music. The Story of a Musician shows the social and musical phenomena
of this style through video footage, interviews, musical excerpts,
photographs, and other illustrations. Ustad Yunus Husain Khan
was the last major vocalist of this tradition.

Shujaat Khan is one of the prominent sitarists to dominate the
concert stage today. On November 11, 1993, Shujaat Khan, accompanied
by Akram Khan on tabla, performed at Meany Hall at the University
of Washington as visiting artist in the division of Ethnomusicology
there. That memorable evening is brought here to video form. Taken
with three cameras and with the audio recorded digitally, the
video covers the main part of Shujaat Khan’s rendition of Rag Jhinjhoti.
